Cheshta works as a Senor Researcher with the Technology & Society group at Vestlandsforsking. She holds a PhD in Social Science from the National Institute of Advanced Studies/Manipal Academy of Higher Education, India. Cheshta's research work focusses on unpacking socio-technical systems in the contemporary from an interdisciplinary perspectives traversing fields such as feminist (techno) science studies, science and technology studies, media studies, critical data studies, and women/gender studies. Her analytical toolkit includes a range of approaches such as auto/ethnography, critical discourse analysis, grounded theory, and speculative design.
Other research interests include: Critical new media studies, critical approaches to ML/AI, content moderation and mis-, dis-, mal- information, critical internet/data/information/algorithm studies, AI (relational) ethics, blockchain, media studies, science and technology Studies, urban studies, work/labour, feminist theory/feminist techno-science studies, 20th century french philosophy, new materialism, object-oriented ontology.
