Big Data is a collection of large data sets, difficult to use because of the volume, the speed at which they are collected or generated (velocity) and their distinct types (variety). Public and private sector organizations have access to enormous amounts of data and it’s influencing the way they operate. They are realising in order to be successful they must leverage their data to make efficient business decisions. The amount and diversity of available data requires innovative methods in data extraction, analysis, integration and visualization.
Our research focus is on identifying the value that big data can provide from the discovery of strategic information up to its analysis and exploitation. By combining basic, strategic and applied research, we delve into different ways of representing and analysing big data to make it amenable to valuable insight discovery.
Our group collaborates with international partners from academia and the public and private sectors. It receives funding from national and international funding agencies.
