Rajendra holds Masters in applied mathematics and doctorate in computer science. His research and teaching experience includes over 27 years in the Academia spanning different universities in Asia, Europe and North America.
He leads big data research at the institute. His primary domain of activities is big data and semantic technologies with aim to combine strong theoretical results with high impact practical results. His recent research focuses on application of big data methods to real-world challenges such as urban mobility and emergency management, and social media analysis in a wide set of semantic dimensions.
Rajendra received prestigious BOYSCASTS Young Scientist award of Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, in 1997. He was UNESCO-TWAS Associate Member from 1998-2001. He is an Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Computer Science & Applications and also associate editor of International Journal of Metadata, Semantics and Ontologies and Knowledge Management Track Editor of Web Intelligence, an international journal. He is involved as the scientific committee member of several international conferences in semantic technologies, big data, and web technologies. He is a member of the ITN Marie Curie WDAqua Advisory Board. He also serves as an IT expert for government/non-government agencies, including the European Commission, as expert evaluator of proposals and reviewer of on-going major funded projects.
Rajendra has extensive experience in managing research and development projects funded by both industry and funding agencies, including the EU Framework Programs and the Research Council of Norway. He is actively involved in several international ICT initiatives, and research & development projects for more than 18 years. In 2010, he has initiated worldwide network on Web Intelligence, Mining and Semantics.
Rajendra has authored/co-authored 14 books, around 124 research papers, co-edited 2 e-Books and edited 14 volumes of international conferences and workshops. In 2013, he edited a comprehensive reference book: 'Big Data Computing'. In 2016, he has co-authored a textbook entitled 'Intelligent Techniques for Data Science' with Springer International Publishing.
