Status and potential for using natural hazard data in climate change adaptation

The Norwegian Environmental Directorate has commisioned Vestlandsforsking to present an overview of relevant data and information sources regarding the extent and size of natural hazard events and a summary of the use and needs associated with the use of such data linked to the efforts to adapt society to climate change.

The study will include interviews of representatives from three municipalities (Stavanger, Bærum and Oslo) which has been given access to natural hazard damage data from the insurance industry and used these data in their planning and decision making. These experiences will be seen in connection with a previous study at Vestlandsforsking commissioned by Finance Norway in which 10 municipalities were given access to such data, but the municipalities were unable to test the use of data in actuel planning and decision making.
