An assessment of the October flood in Western Norway 2014

During the days Sunday morning the 26th to Wednesday morning 29th of October 2014 an extreme percipitation event took place in western Norway, with the highest value measured at Opstveit Kvinnherad of 332 mm for one day. The heavy precipitation combined with snowmelt in the mountains led to extreme flooding in several valleys.

A number of buildings and other categories of infrastructure were heavily damaged, especially in Flåmsdalen and in Odda where at least 11 houses and four bridges were literary lost. In this project we will assess the extent that deficiencies in planning and maintainance of physical infrastructure can explan the scope and nature of the injuries.
