Competing values, ideologies and lock-in dependencies in sociotechnical pathways for industrial decarbonization
This article examines how different values influence the way countries work to reduce emissions from industry. The article looks in depth at three countries: Norway, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States, to understand their strategies. The article argues that a better understanding of these values can help countries find more realistic ways to reduce emissions. It also suggests that countries need to be more proactive and take action to change their energy systems, so that they can achieve the goals of reducing emissions and ensuring a just transition.
The article is the result of collaboration between the University of Sussex and Vestlandsforsking through NTRANS. Vestlandsforsking’s contribution has been to delve into the Norwegian context, identify Norwegian case areas and which actors to interview, and to carry out data collection in Norway.
