Climate Risks of the Transition to a Renewable Energy Society: The Need for Extending the Research Agenda
One of the research innovations of UNCHAIN is to develop better frameworks for analyzing how societal change can affect local climate change vulnerabilities. In this article, we show how the transition to a future renewable energy system can increase climate vulnerability and thus also increase the climate risk associated with the energy system. The article also presents a theoretical model for how to understand this phenomenon inspired by the American sociologist Charles Perrow's theories about the risk society.
