Culture and nature as a competitive force on the road to a sustainable tourism destination

Stormhyttene på Lykling and garden Gullvegen Gardstun is a project that will combine sustainable innovation, local history, tradition and experience-based tourism in scenic surroundings. Gullvegen Gardstun is a strong player and partner of the Unesco Geopark Sunnhordland, with the gold mines and the soapstone quarry at Lykling located on the farm. We aim to develop this project and the farm into a vibrant and attractive destination, and potentially a tourism destination, where guests not only get an overnight stay, but also a deeply rooted experience of local culture and nature. In order to lay a solid foundation for further development, we are seeking research support. We need professional insight into sustainable solutions in experience design, how we can extend the stay of our guests beyond one night, and how to use Unesco Geopark Sunnhordland in conceptualisation and communication in further development. Therefore, we will work with a researcher on loan from Vestlandsforsking, which has broad expertise in research on sustainable tourism. The researcher will carry out the following activities:

- visual inspection of the farm and the Storm Cabins, and collection of knowledge about local history and surroundings

- based on the inspection, identification of needs, opportunities and obstacles for the sustainable development of the tourist offer

- presentation of relevant research-based knowledge that offers relevant solutions

- development of an action plan for further research work/projects for experiences that will reinforce guests' desire to stay longer on the farm and in the region. This will be based on local history, nature and authentic experiences.
