VRI is the Research Council of Norway's special program for research and innovation in Norway. The program aims to contribute to increased innovation and value creation in the regional economy. This will be achieved by stimulating increased interaction between R & D-institutions, companies and regional authorities.

The first triennial project of VRI are running out, and a new project plan and application for funding must be prepared within September 2010. Project application must include themed areas of tourism, marine industries and renewable energy. Internationalisation and the public sector are also considered.
