Semantic means "the meaning of words" and it is the machines that need to "understand" the meaning of our words, not us. To make that happen we need to add meta data to our information. The semantic web is a fastly increasing part of the web and our contribution is, like our other areas, mostly on the user side. We work with technologies like topic maps, RDF + OWL. Our web site uses topic maps and the development of it has been an important part of our learning process. It is also a valuable demonstration case where we can point to the importance of building portals on a solid model to ensure that the portal is coherent and does not fall apart when, for instance, doing an internal search.
