The research area of Innovation is an interdisciplinary field where businesses and society meet sustainable development research and research in applied information technology. Several of the projects have researchers from the different themes working together on them.
Use of information technology is an important driver of innovation in business and in the public sector. Research has shown that, although the isolated value of the IT sector is still somewhat small, the effect on productivity in general is very high. In businesses the talk is about e-business and change processes related to internal and external communication, in the public sector e-government and e-governance are key aspects to consider.
To be able to cope with change processes and innovation it is important for the local and regional innovation systems to exchange experiences and knowledge and to collaborate on solving common problems.
This research area also looks at digital divides; the divide between those who have and those who do not have access to, or the ability to use, necessary technology.
