Assessing the ecological footprint of Norway for 1987, 1997 and 2007. A study in connection with the 20th anniversary of the Brundtland report

The project will address the following three research questions:

  1. How has the environmental pressure from Norwegian consumption developed from 1987 to 2007?
  2. What are the ration between leisure-time and everyday consumption?
  3. How has the environmental pressure from Norwegian production developed from 1987 to 2007?

We will use ecological footprinting as a tool in order to address research questions 1 and 2. Question 3 will be addressed by means of making a selection of traditional environmental indicators published by Statistics Norway and the Ministry of Environment. Our hypothesis is that the environmental pressure from consumption has increased whereas the environmental pressure from production has decreased from 1987 to 2007. The project is done in connection with the 20th anniversary of the Brundtland report.
